it right now. they honestly believe they were sent to washington, d.c. to cut spending by any means necessary, and i don't think the obama white house realized that in 2001. they certainly realize that now, more than ever, but that's the fortunes up against john boehner, eric cantor, kevin mccarthy. anything they learned is they looked chaotic and weak yesterday when they were going in two ways. basically becoming the laughing stock of the country. a lot of people left confused and even worried because of some weird inner party dynamic they were going to be hit with a m s massive tax increase, but because of what happened this time around, there's going to be a serious move by the gop leadership not to look like they are bending over in any capacity to accommodate the president. they are going to push this to the very end. we'll see what happens. i hope i'm wrong for the sake of the economy and everybody's nerves, but you could play this tape come march first, i think we're going to be having this same discussion. >> luke, i guess you're not going to have a vacation ever, but if yo

the economy. remember obama is not just raising taxes on the rich right now. we're about to enter a decade where a trillion dollars is going to be taken away from the american people in higher taxes to pay for obama-care. this was passed only by democrats. it is entirely a democrat tax increase. and it includes many taxes that directly hit middle income and lower income people. so obama's tax increase is not just the top tax rates. it's people -- if you have bad health problems and you spend more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income on out of pocket health costs, you used to be able to deduct anything above that. thanks to obama's law, obama-care, that's now 10%. so $2 million to $3 million will be taken out of people average income $53,000 a year, who are lower income, middle income and sick. they're going to be paying taxes for obama-care. there's an avalanche of obama tax increases coming next year. >> i just want to point out, grover norquist, though, having said all that and everything you said, you are giving cover to those republicans who will vote in favor of the senate legislat

on the right-hand side of your screen is preparation for president obama come out. we are waiting for the press conference. the senate bill will head to the white house where it is also expected to be passed by the president, and that will avoid losing the bush era tax cuts for anybody -- individuals making under $100,000 a year and couples making $450,000 per year. above that threshold we will see taxes go up. spending cuts have been postponed. we will not be doing with the sequestration or the spending cuts or agree to the last time i had to deal with the debt ceiling negotiations. we are talking to jared levy about how this affects the markets. there's a ton of uncertainty, especially with the spending cuts out there the debt ceiling, so out there, and i wonder how that has been affected by the lack of performance. another thing that kept being discussed was tax increases or no tax increases. for the tax code in general needs to be overhauled. and what can be done to tackle the deck dataset? jared: 60 or 70% of working americans have done some meals prepared for taxes for them. you could spe

is the assistant attorney general of the civil rights division in washington, dc, he was nominated for that position by president obama and sworn in in october of 2009 and we are all the lucky -- we are all very lucky that that happened in october of 2009. tom has spent his entire career in public service and on protecting the civil rights of our most vulnerable people. tom actually joined the civil rights division as a young lawyer and while he was there he prosecuted some of the most significant cases in the country. lawyers in the civil rights division get fanned out to places in the country to handle cases in mississippi and alabama and california and all over and tom was one of those people. he was sent to texas to handle a very significant hate crime case when he was a young lawyer that involved a gang of white supremacists that went on a killing spree and ended up shooting 3 people and killing one when he was a young lawyer working in the civil rights division. he later served as a top deputy for attorney general janet reno, he was special counsel to ted kennedy and ser

's right. and these budget wars don't knowsly amount to legacy. here's a president who came in like most presidents thinking about a legacy, thinking about history. of course i think obama care will be part it haof it but i t he's looking at immigration and energy, a lot of thing he's wasn't able to do in the first term, to get them done in the second term. a lot of bad blood there between obama and the republicans but also some bad blood there between obama and the democrats. not a lot of -- i think not a lot of improvement obama has shown over he's last weeks in terms of his relationship with congress. i think that's something he certainly needs to work on if he's looking at legacy, if he's looking at these big ticket items to push them through in his second term. in a couple of months we'll have these big debates around the debt limit but quickly once 2014 comes around, we're going to be thinking about the mid terms and a lot of his political capital will be gone by then. >> it's interesting, chris, everyone to a person on capitol hill said biden did this, biden did this. a lot of rep
